Operation Future, LLC offers advisory services to states, cities, tribes, private industry, professional associations, NGOs, and universities to become more resilient to our rapidly changing climate, to incorporate climate strategies into operations, to train staff, and to create a more sustainable future.

Operation Future was founded by Benjamin DeAngelo, a leader with considerable expertise bridging science and policy based on over 27 years of domestic and international experience through senior positions at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.

Bio

Benjamin DeAngelo is an experienced leader bridging climate science with climate mitigation and adaptation actions. He has over 27 years of experience in the U.S. federal government leading and initiating domestic and international policy actions and research assessments. 

Most recently, DeAngelo was the first senior executive service Director of the Office of Climate Adaptation and Sustainability at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) charged with leading and coordinating EPA’s adaptation and resilience efforts. From 2017 to late 2024, DeAngelo was the Deputy Director of the Climate Program Office in the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), helping to lead that office’s work to support foundational climate research and regionally-based adaptation programs. He initiated a first-of-its-kind partnership between NOAA and the American Society for Civil Engineers (ASCE) to bring the science of our changing climate into the next generation of infrastructure standards.

DeAngelo has a history of involvement in the Arctic Council, including his role to bring about voluntary reporting and mitigation targets for black carbon emissions. From 2021-2023 he served as the Chair of the Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Program (AMAP), a working group under the Arctic Council.

DeAngelo also served as the Deputy Executive Director of the U.S. Global Change Research Program and Senior Advisor for the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. He helped lead the 4th U.S. National Climate Assessment. DeAngelo served in the EPA previously where he was a Senior Analyst for climate science and policy and was an author of EPA's 2009 greenhouse gas endangerment finding under the Clean Air Act.

He is an author or editor on over 25 publications covering climate impact assessments, black carbon emissions, greenhouse gas mitigation, and Arctic trends, and a trusted source with the media with appearances on Fox Weather and Spectrum News NY1. DeAngelo received his bachelor’s in geography at Pennsylvania State University, master’s in geography at the University of Toronto, and was a Fulbright Scholar in Germany. In 2022, DeAngelo was named by Penn State’s College of Earth and Mineral Sciences as one of its 125th Anniversary Fellows.
